Crafting a Legacy: A Documentary on Docs Animation in the Making” takes viewers on a journey through the creation of Docs Animation, a bold new animation collective founded by artists looking to carve their own path in the industry. Stemming from the experiences gained through CTN Expo and WildGoat Animation—an influential collective led by Disney veteran James Lopez—Docs Animation was born out of a desire to create original animated content free from the constraints of traditional studios.

Led by founder Leo Beltran, Docs Animation is a unique space where artists retain full ownership of their work, empowering them to take creative risks and push the boundaries of 2D animation. This documentary captures the collective’s evolution, from its early stages at conventions to the development of ambitious animated shorts. Through behind-the-scenes footage, interviews, and live convention experiences, the film chronicles the team’s efforts to disrupt the animation landscape while navigating the challenges of independent production.
